Different examinations pursued, most remarkably the 1964
report of American doctor, Dr. Irving J. Selikoff. He introduced his
discoveries at the Biological Effects of Asbestos gathering, supported by the
New York Academy of Science.
For over a year, Selikoff inspected in excess of 1,000
specialists from the Union Asbestos and Rubber Company plant in Patterson, New
Jersey — laborers whose occupations included creating asbestos protection
materials for the U.S. Naval force.
Selikoff found the death rate among these representatives
was 25 percent higher than would be normal factually and that the expired
laborers had kicked the bucket from an assortment of illnesses, including
asbestosis, asbestos-related lung disease and different kinds of lung, stomach
and colorectal malignant growths.
